MTHS Presents "The Music Man"
Monterey Trail High School presents the American musical theatre classic “The Music Man” on April 10-11 and 16-18. Show times start at 7 p.m. on April 10-11 and 17-18, with a 4 p.m. matinee on April 16. Tickets for the 7 p.m. shows are $10 general admission and $8 for students, senior citizens and children. Tickets are $6 for the matinee performance.
“The Music Man” follows fast-talking salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize – despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.  The score features unforgettable songs like “76 Trombones”, “Goodnight My Someone”, and the high-energy showstopper, “Shipoopi”.
A truly collaborative effort, this production features numerous sets designed and built by students in Sal Lascola’s Exploring Technology class, costumes coordinated by  Diane Terrell, vocal direction by Rachael Yoder and guest artist Lenore Heinson, orchestra direction by Aaron Smith, and stage direction by Sara Townsend. It also features choreography by Impulse Dance members Liz Green and Aina Eden and a poster design by Hailey McCormick. In addition to more than 40 MTHS students performing in the show or working behind the scenes, there are nine EGUSD elementary school students representing four elementary schools performing in the children's ensemble.
For more information, please contact MTHS Theatre Program Director Sara Townsend at (916) 688-0050, ext. 4274.
